My Favorite Thing About Math

So my "math boss" is leaving. He is moving from California all the way to Idaho!  I won't tell you what a mess I've been the last two weeks since I found out, but I did want to share with you, all of the awesome things my kids had to say about their "favorite thing about math."
I took all of their writing and put it together to make a class book as a thank you to Ryan.

My favorite thing about math is that I don't have to know everything, it's okay to be a learner, I can learn higher level math if I work hard, the way I approach problems is valuable to others, and my students can do amazing things when I create opportunities for it.

In reflecting on what the students had to say, it was easy to see that none of this would have been said by the students without the influence and coaching of Ryan over the past few years.  I am so grateful to have had the most amazing coach anyone could ask for.  I hope to keep learning and empowering other teachers along the way in the years to come.

  1. Wonderful!

"I learn to not be sad when I do not get it right" - that's a great one (among all brilliant what-I-likes)!

    1. I love that one too, especially because it was from my perfectionist child. It's been a work in progress all year to help him shift his focus away from answer getting.

    1. I love that the kids value the changes I have made to my practice over the last few years! It was all worth it1

  3. Those are some nice drawings by the kids. Math is often disliked by students. Good job on showing a positive side of Math to these kids
